Troop 446 sponsored by Transfiguration Lutheran Church has a long history in Bloomington first chartering in 1958. The first group of scouts belonged mainly to the sponsor’s congregation, but over the years the troop has drawn scouts from throughout the area. Hundreds of scouts have registered with our troop since 1958, along with many devoted parents and adults who have volunteered to assist. 89 young men have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from our troop. We hope to continue the strong tradition of character development and values-based leadership training.

Our troop is planned and run by the scouts with the adult leaders helping to guide and encourage where needed. Each boy will join a patrol with other scouts. They will be led by a Patrol Leader along with his assistant. The patrol method of scouting allows each scout to be a part of a team to work and learn together.

The troop has activities year-round. The boys decide on the events. Our current calendar is attached.

The troop owns all of the equipment needed for a group of boys to camp together. This includes tents, camping stoves, cooking utensils, rain tarps, lanterns, and saws. Each scout just brings his own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, rain gear, and other personal items.

The troop conducts one fund raising event each year, in fall. The boys sell Christmas wreaths and popcorn. This enables the troop to keep expenses as low as possible for the boys. This money is used to offset the costs for camping trips, summer camp, and High Adventure camps.

Troop 446 has a long tradition of active adult involvement. In addition to the scoutmaster, there are currently seven people helping as assistant scoutmasters. Another seven adults currently serve on the troop committee.

Parents are both welcomed and encouraged to help with the troop. Opportunities range from helping to organize a single event to being a counselor for a merit badge to volunteering for an adult leader position such as serving on the troop committee.
